Former Deputy speaker Anita Among has been declared as the speaker of the 11th parliament.
This is after Among garnered 401 votes against Basalirwa’s 66 votes.
A total of 468 members of parliament took part in the voting at a special sitting taking place at Kololo.
After taking the oath, the process of nomination and election of the deputy speaker will commence.
Among, the Bukedea Woman MP, who was the Deputy Speaker was endorsed by his party’s top organ to run for the race.
